On November 20, 2014 President Obama announced an executive action, which could help numerous undocumented individuals in the U.S. receive a work permit and relief from deportation for 3 years. One avenue of relief is through an expanded DACA (for those individuals who arrived in the U.S. before the age of 16 and before 01/01/2010). Another group of eligible individuals are those who entered before 01/01/2010 and whose children (born on or before 11/20/14) are either U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.
It is too soon to apply for either avenues of relief, and more details need to be provided. However, this is a promising step towards immigration reform.
It's not too early to schedule a consultation with Velt Immigration Law Firm, PLLC to discuss President Obama's new immigration initiatives!
